"Rock Me"
The Westwood
Recordings
05/02/2001
|
During
his 1976 concert tour to Europe, Marvin took time to record 22 songs
for Westwood Records in Wales.
Eleven of these songs were released in an album entitled "Some Old,
Some New
"Especially for You". The other eleven were never
released.
Bear Family records has compiled all
22 great cuts on a new album "Rock Me". You'll hear gorgeous country
ballads, stomping rockabilly, and even a recitation or two. Here's an
opportunity for Marvin's fans to hear some tunes for the first time.
And it's a Bear Family Cd, so you know the sound will be first class.

Here's a review from
AMAZON.COM
One of the true
legends of Country music, Marvin Rainwater is kept in front of the fans
with this fabulous and exciting box set from Bear Family! The sound is
great and the music is better! Every rockabilly and country hit of
Marvin's as well as virtually his whole recorded legacy prior to 1970
is included in this box set! Marvin's unique way with a song has
brought joy to millions over the years. It is really teriffic to be
able to listen to so many songs again that were out of print. Marvin is
the artist credited with helping Patsy Cline, Roy Clark, Brenda Lee,
and Connie Francis get started. In this box are duets with Connie,
backup and lead by Roy, and Rockabilly guest appearances by Link
Wray! Also included are duets with Marvin's sister Patty Rainwater and
with Bill Guess. Four long playing cds and a fullsize book with lots of
pictures and discography add to the value of this Marvin Rainwater
collection. If you love real country music, if rockabilly gets to your
soul, then for sure get yourself a copy of "Marvin Rainwater Classsic
Recordings" . Now, if only Bear Family would put out a box of
1970 to the present....the saga would continue. Pop for this one
friends, you will not be disappointed.

Spectacular!
reviewer: Lynda Cothran
I was 8 years old when I first heard
"My Love Is Real" and that was many years ago.The song gave me goose
bumps and ever since I've wanted to hear more. My husband purchased the
entire CD collection for my birthday and I couldn't be more pleased.
Marvin sings such sweet sentimental tunes, endearing ballads and foot
stompin' rockabilly. For those who don't remember Marvin's unique and
beautiful voice I can compare it to alittle Hank Williams Sr., alittle
Roy Orbison and for the younger set, alittle like Chris Isaak. I
encourage all to buy this set: it is spectacular..!

one more!
Appeals to Classic Country fans, as well as
Rock-a-billy, January 5, 1999
Reviewer: A music fan from
WA, USA
I have this album set in
my home. The chart topper on this 4-album set is "Gonna Find Me a
Bluebird", that sold over a million copies circa 1959. There are
several songs on this album set that are in the category of 'Bluebird',
that are mostly unfamiliar to the radio listening audiences, such as
'Yesterday's kisses', '(Sometimes) I feel like leavin' town', 'A Song
of new Love (On golden wings)', and 'Look for me (I'll be waiting for
you)'. Also, there are a couple songs that include Marvin singing duets
with Connie Frances. There are several songs written by Marvin's
sister, Pattie Rainwater, done by Marvin, as well as duets with Pattie.
The 4th album set closes with live performances by both Marvin and
Pattie on Wheeling, WV, Jubilee. There is a considerable variety of
entertainment on the 4-album set of over 125 songs. Anyone who
remembers Marvin from such TV shows as Arthur Gofrey's talent scouts,
Ed Sullivan show, Dick Clark show, as well as his being a 'regular' on
Red Foley's Ozark Jubilee, from Springfield, MO, for about 2 years,
would appreciate getting to again hear his homespun songs, as well as
songs of the heart, that find their way into most of our lives.
I feel certain that
anyone who gets this album set will enjoy long hours listening
pleasure, as there is something here for just about everyone. If you
have parents who loved Country music from the 50's and 60's, you could
not find a better gift to bring hours of entertainment for them.

Review
: Cub Coda
All Music Guide
A superb single disc of Rainwater's most
rocking sides, 26 in all, although inexplicably leaving off his biggest
hit, "Gonna Find Me A Bluebird." But there's much here to love,
including the chugging "Mr. Blues" and "Hot and Cold" featuring
explosive guitar from Roy Clark and "Boo Hoo," "Tough Top Cat,"
and "There's A Honky Tonk In Your Heart," which features backing from Link
Wray and the Raymen. Marvin at his quirkiest and if you can
live without his big hit, this is the package to grab. ~ Cub Koda, All
