Friends,
Here’s a brand new Poem from Marvin
Just in Time for Spring And Baseball Season.

” LITTLE JIM”
by Marvin Rainwater

LITTLE JIM PLAYED CENTERFIELD
AND EVERYBODY KNEW
THAT LITTLE JIM COULD SWING A BAT
AND BRING THE RUNS IN TOO

YOU COULD NEVER FIND A SEAT
NO MATTER WHAT YOUR NAME
IF WORD GOT OUT THAT LITTLE JIM
WAS PLAYING IN A GAME

IT’S HARD TO TELL WHAT DRAWS A CROWD
OR WHAT WILL PLEASE THEIR WHIM
BUT YOU WOULD ALWAYS FIND A MOB
WHERE YOU FOUND LITTLE JIM

SOMETIMES IT SEEMS THE CROWD FORGOT
THAT THEY WERE ON A BLEACHER
FOLKS WOULD PUT THEIR FAITH IN HIM
THE WAY YOU WOULD A PREACHER

IT MAY HAVE BEEN THE WILL TO WIN
THE GAME THAT GAVE HIM FLAIR
IT MAY HAVE BEEN BECAUSE THEY KNEW
HE PLAYED IT FAIR AND SQUARE

CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT TOOK PLACE
WHEN WORD HAD GOT AROUND
THAT FEVER STRUCK THEIR PRIDE AND JOY
AND LITTLE JIM WAS DOWN?

EVERY DAY AND EVERY NIGHT
THEIR LIPS WOULD BREATHE HIS NAME
‘TIL FINALLY LITTLE JIM WAS BACK
TO PLAY HIS FINAL GAME

LITTLE JIM COULD SAVE THE DAY
HE SWUNG WITH ALL HE OWNED
HE STUMBLED AS HE ROUNDED THIRD
AND HEADED IN FOR HOME

WHAT HAPPENED IN THAT CLOUD OF DUST
IS KIND OF HARD TO SAY
BUT I’M GLAD I DIDN’T HAVE
TO MAKE THE CALL THAT DAY

THE CROWD WAS ALMOST ON THE FIELD
AND THERE WAS LITTLE DOUBT
THE WAY THEY FELT ABOUT THE UMP
WHEN HE CALLED JIMMY OUT!

IT TOOK AN AWFUL HONEST MAN
TO FACE THAT FRIGHTFUL ROAR
ESPECIALLY NOW THAT LITTLE JIM
WOULD PLAY THE GAME NO MORE

THE THING BETWEEN THE UMPIRE AND
A LYNCHING MOB THAT DAY
WAS KNOWING THAT THEIR LITTLE JIM
WOULD’AVE WANTED IT THAT WAY

AND SO DEAR FRIENDS WHENEVER YOU
THINK LIFE HAS DONE YOU BAD
REMEMBER THAT OLD MEAN UMPIRE
WAS LITTLE JIMMY’S………DAD!

HOW’D JA LIKE TO BE ME?
By Marvin Rainwater

MAMA DIDN’T WANT ME & DADDY WAS GONE
I GUESS YOU MIGHT SAY ..WASN’T MUCH OF A HOME
JUST A BIG OLE HOUSE FULL OF FIGHTIN’ KIDS
AND NOBODY CARED MUCH WHAT I DID

WELL I KNOW YOU MIGHT SAY IT’S ALL MY FAULT
‘CUZ I’VE HEARD YOU SAY I AIN’T WORTH MY SALT
WELL…HERE’S MY SHOES..PUT ‘EM ON YOUR FEET
AND THINK ABOUT ME WHEN YOU HIT THE STREET

NOT SURE WHERE TO GO NOT KNOWING WHERE TO TURN
BUT YOU’LL FEEL THAT RAGE THAT STARTS TO BURN
YOU’LL TURN YOUR BACK ON THE ONES YOU LOVE
AND YOU’LL HAVE NO TIME FOR THE MAN ABOVE

DON’T WORRY ‘BOUT TOMORROW JUST LIVE FOR TODAY
‘CUZ YOU AIN’T GONNA LIVE TO SEE YOUR HAIR TURN GRAY.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO TAKE MY KNIFE
AND HERE’S MY GUN
JUST DON’T LOOK BACK
WHEN YOU START TO
RUNNNNN.nnnnnnnnnnn…………
